Honoring veterans’ lives through specialized hospice care

Hospice of Southwest Ohio is a We Honor Veterans partner

As a We Honor Veterans partner, Hospice of Southwest Ohio understands the unique needs of veterans entering hospice care. It’s important to us that veterans know their service was not in vain, and we honor that through simple acts of gratitude.

What is the We Honor Veterans program?

We Honor Veterans strives to engage and support hospice providers in better understanding and addressing veterans’ needs. As people reflect on their lives during hospice care, it’s important they feel they served a purpose. With veterans, this directly relates to their time spent serving our country.

The program encourages caregivers to learn salutes they can perform to honor veterans’ service. From pinning ceremonies to recognition certificates in both public and private settings, our team will work with veterans’ families to determine what types of salutes are most appropriate.

For memorial services, We Honor Veterans suggests we pay tribute to the veteran’s service by offering a patriotic theme and decorating with any photos or military memorabilia the family has. Hospice of Southwest Ohio also works with local active duty military personnel to attend memorials to honor veterans’ lives.

How is our team trained to care for veterans?

We offer benefits to veterans and their families by providing veteran-centric care. With Hospice of Southwest Ohio, patients and families can expect compassionate listening, grateful acknowledgment, and respectful inquiry.
